High-pressure gate valves are different from high-temperature shut-off valves
Despite providing very different functions, gate valves, globe valves, and check valves are often used together due to many similarities in building material grades, trims, and other technical specifications. But there must be some differences between all these types of valves.
The main difference between gate, check and check valves is the application and operation of each valve:
Gate valves are the most commonly used valves in piping systems. It is a universal service valve, mainly used for switching, non-restrictive applications. A partially opened gate valve will accelerate the corrosion caused by the goods in the pipeline and will damage the valve seat in a short time.

Materials for gate, globe and check valves
The two most common specifications for carbon steel valves are A105 and A216 WCB. It is important to note the different size ranges available in forged (A105) and cast steel (WCB). Although cast steel gate valves, globe valves and check valves can meet almost any size requirements of your application, forged steel gate valves, globe valves and check valves are only available for 4 ", most commonly 2" and below. Forging is very expensive with larger diameters, where casting is more cost effective.
